Very noisy engine?

So i went down and test drive one yesterday as we sold our rzr and we're ready to buy. Fire it up and head down the road, damn this thing is louder than a Detroit diesel except at idle. WTF ? Power seemed ok but not exceptional drives ok, nice and roomy but damn that engine is loud ! Just me or what?

I didn't find mine to be any louder than my General was. It is a much different tone, and the RPM's are quite a bit higher, but the actual volume isn't higher. Might be worth another drive with that in mind, or maybe drive a different one and see if it sounds the same to you.
I agree that it is not a power house, but with the torque and gearing, nothing stops it. It won't jump off the line or win a drag race, but it will climb a tree. :)

I thought that at first too. It really isnt. My T4 is loud. It depends on your speed. A rzr is quieter at some speeds and not at other imop. Can ams about the same imop. It isnt the quietest I agree. I think its the clutching and rpm. It is lagged at takeoffs which again is clutching to achieve smoothness. I like that as I HATE the rough engagements of others like RZR. Ya need to push krx to see it does handle drive pretty good. Ride softens up as well. Never seems to get squierrrrlly! Very composed ride. RZR is twitchy and more responsive.
Thank you, I have a friend that bought one and loves it. I have plans to go down to his place and drive his around the mountains a bit before i decide. I really like the whole setup and feel like kawi did a great job, guess i just need to give it a chance!

I agree that the motor is loud. I use those foam ear plugs and it makes it bearable. If noise is a consideration, the a Yamaha x2 was the quietest machine I test drove.
The KRX is a loud machine. I was hoping to get away from that when I traded my T4, but I think my KRX is just as loud. For now, my solution is is a set of ear muffs.

It is a bit loud for us. In the interest of trying to save what is left of our already compromised hearing.......This, or a helmet version. The noise that doesn't bother you can be still damaging your hearing.....it all adds up.

I use ear protection from Eargasm, the same ones I use for practice in my Hard Rock band, they have an adjustment for 2 levels of decibel reduction.

Bob nailed and that’s my favorite description about a KRX -“it will climb a tree”. Well said sir!
I have been looking forward to switching to a KRX since they came out. I picked one up and went for a drive around the neighborhood. Nothing crazy, just putting on a few miles. First observation is how much nosier it is from the RZR I have been driving for the last 6 years. I have also spent a lot of time in Can Ams. To me it is more than just different, it is louder and more annoying. I hope it calms down, (or maybe I will).
Wearing a helmet will make a big difference in how loud it seems to you.

You are of course right. I have a helmet and could use ear protection. Years ago when SxS's were basic utility items I said that I would buy one when I could find one that didn't sound like a lawnmower about ready to explode. The RZR was the first product that I found that met my requirements. Since the KRX was a recent start from scratch machine they had the luxury of looking at all the competition and seeing how they could improve. I believe with the exception of the noisy engine they hit a home run. I think that somewhere along the development an engineer could have said
"we need to make this thing less noisy, not more noisy that the competition".
I agree it’s loud and annoying it cruse at 4000rpm at 9mph in high wtf?
Too loud to enjoy the ride! Sold mine!

I think the motor isn't to loud.but I either got a extreme case of the kawasaki whine.or my transmission or clutch is f Ed up at 150 miles..anyone thoughts on the whine noise??
I'm using 3M Worktunes Bluetooth headsets. They reduce the engine, gear whine, wind & road noise by at least 70-80%, maybe more! I look forward to driving this awesome SxS everyday now! The 3M headsets pair with my smart phone with the push of a button and the music sounds amazing! Since the music doesn't have to compete with the sound of the KRX, you only need to turn up the volume about 3/4s the way to hear the music clearly, which saves your hearing. Most of the newer smart phones have "dual audio" which allows you to connect 2 BT headphones to your phone at the same time. This allows you and your passenger to listen to music "wirelessly" when your blasting through the "whoops" My wife loves riding with me now!!! It's a "win-win"
THANKS FOR THE RECOMMENDATION!!!
I used my old Bose noise-canceling headphones with great success, but only twice. I didn’t like dealing with the wired connection and didn’t want to ruin them with mud. The 3M phones appear to be the perfect solution. I just ordered a pair. Thanks for posting!
