I looking for a storage tray that would mount on top of my spare tire in the rear bed. Something with low sides that I could strap some soft coolers into. Has anyone done this or have an idea where you could find something like this. I know I could have one fabricated but was hoping someone had a creative idea on how to do this.

Do you not like the one Kawasaki offers or since everything is out of stock, you wanting to go a different route?

Edit: I see now you are asking for something that goes on top of the spare tire!!

I made mine out of plywood. Right now it's a "prototype"--but functional prototypes often last a long time in my world!

I can carry a fairly large plastic tote and either a smallish cooler or up to three 5 gal gas cans. And I mounted my scissor jack to the side of the board simply because it was a convenient place to put it.

What about a milkcrate, or is that too much trailer park bling.

Not a bad idea, but looking for something with shorter sides and about 24”x 24”.

I'm at my cabin and my ride is in town. I'll try and get a pix of the prototype tomorrow and get it posted. It's crude--but works like a charm!

Sorry for the delay. The platform is just a piece of 3/4 ply I had in the garage cut to width/length and the front corners cut off to let the front end fit between the air intakes. It just sits on the tire and is held in place by the straps--which are used to hold the tote, cooler, gas, whatever, as needed. When I'm not carrying anything I just tighten the straps to hold the platform. I have a 1x2 furring strip across the back so the tote can't fall off the back.

The roof and the back wind screen are cut from the same piece of ply. The roof is more or less permanent. I haven't decided, yet, what to do for a permanent platform or wind screen.

Since someone will ask . . . I don't turn very well when seated so I can't look out the back, anyway--I have side view mirrors on each side instead. The top section of the wind screen comes off for ventilation, as needed. Seemed like a good place to carry a flat pack of gas, too!

You're welcome. Easy enough to put a small rail around it to prevent stuff sliding off. And, since it's not fastened down, it 's easy to remove for washing!
