I am having a spinning rattle noise when I engage 4wd. Once I take it out of 4wd, the noise goes away. The 4wd appears to be working (at least one of the front wheels). Any ideas?

Check both from axles and drive shaft.. if there good then try to pin point if its at the front diff or transfer case.. have spotted a posting of a failed u joint but one would think a broken axle is more common..

Does it happen to sound like spinning chatter and eventually goes away? At around 35-40

Is it possible that your drive shaft is out of time.. meaning both front and rear u joints are in same position ? also have you checked if anything is rubbing on the driveshaft? next a torsional vibration can come and go if the drive line and diffs are out of pitch.. this takes a protractor to check the angle of each drive component...
