There is nothing to hook a winch cable on to pull this machine backwards. Is there something aftermarket that I can put on there besides a hitch receiver?
You can check out bruteperformance.com. Search for KRX pull point. They sell it in a single or two for both the front and back. I picked these up a few months ago and I can say that they are robust as hell. There is nothing to hook a winch cable on to pull this machine backwards. I got the rear factory attachment point.....gave it a close look and added a tree saver strap.....just in case. The other option it to keep a short tree saver strap in your machine and wrap it around the lower rear frame area then hook your winch to the strap.
Quick links shouldn't be used for any towing or recovery. A good 5/16 QL has a working load of less then 2k. Get a shackle that is made for the job. The Axle straps would work but a lifting sling or tree saver is much better and safer. Here is what everyone needs to carry. Get 2-4’ axle straps at least two. You’ll probably connect them together to get around a large tree.
Now get 5/16” minimum quick links in a ten pack. Connect the axle straps around a large tree. Use others every where for general tow support needs.
It does get heavy, but most our winching is off trail down a ravine or roll overs. It's just the areas we ride. If some ones just stuck they quick a pull out if possible. Winches are only used for dangerous recoveries, self recovery or if there's just nowhere to pull from. Nothings more annoying then waiting 1o minutes for someone to winched out of a mud hole they could have pulled out of in 30 seconds.I added the brute tow points front and back as I ran out of time to make some.. or you could go the emp reciever hitch route or the emp recover hitch and rear winch mount.
As for pulling from the rear. Any decent strap around the frame should work.
You can add a lot of weight, fast, with recovery gear. I’ve tried to minimize that weight, as often times the more weight you carry the more problems you’ll have.
Instead of heavy shackles.. I’ve swapped to soft shackles.
The soft shackles also do away with the need for a jack as you can wrap them around the cage and have a buddy winch you over for tire repair or anything jack related where you need to lift the machine.
Instead of heavy snatch blocks.. light weight recovery rings.
Your choice of strap(s) can double as a tree saver or pull/tow strap. I also carry an extra synthetic winch rope.
Yup.. I understand completely. And those places are what I’m referring to when it comes to the benefit of reducing weight. It does get heavy, but most our winching is off trail down a ravine or roll overs. I carry 3 3/4 d rings, 2 1/2 d rings, a soft shackle, 2 snatch blocks, a recovery ring, 6 ft tree saver, 10 ft 1" tow strap, 2 20 ft recovery straps, 50 ft of extra winch line with an eye splice on both ends that can be used as an extension or you can pull a eye out and use it a replacement winch line and a fid and some tape to splice lines if needed.
