Just got back from four days of riding the Alpine Loop and surrounding trails. If you like riding in the HIGH country, and the most beautiful views in Colorado, this needs to be on your bucket list.

We were camped at 9,600' and most everything went up from there. I was riding with two identical Polaris RZR PRO XP 4 Ultimate machines. What an amazing area.

Here is a link to some of my photos from the trip. Click on pictures to view in full size. There is an arrow on the right to advance from picture to picture so you don't have to click on each picture.

Want to do that for sure. Was there a place nearby to rent any cabins and such? With my crew and their ages the wife would want a cabin in the evenings. We are not tent campers yet.

There are all kinds of cabins to rent in Lake City and the surrounding area. You can ride in town (which enables you to ride the loop) so staying in town works fine.

After seeing the pics I did some digging and we may make a Jeep trip out of it. Looks like its about a 19 hour drive from where I'm sitting.
Some folks struggle with the altitude. Might figure on a day or so to get acclimated to the altitude if you come from low elevation. It's a real thing. It's about a 5-1/2 hour drive for me.

I heard Silverton voted NO ORV in town this year, I bet that hurts their yearly income
I'm sure they will feel some effect from it, but I think they will be fine. There are about as many Jeeps and other full size, street legal rigs as OHV's up there. I also see it from the residents point of view. I saw idiots in Lake City burn out of the gas station in their sxs, tires squealing and hauling a$$. Those are the people we should be mad at, not the folks who live there and have to put up with crap like that on a daily basis. On the other hand, all we lose by not being able to ride in Silverton is we lose being able to ride in Silverton. That's it. We don't lose access to the Alpine Loop or any of the connected trails. Pretty sure that's all you could ride from town anyway.

Bob have you done Black bear pass?
I have not. I would really like to do it, but the logistics are complicated. I would somehow have to have my truck and trailer in Telluride to pick me up after finishing the ride. Could just ride to the top of the switchbacks and then backtrack to the trailhead, but I would prefer not to do it that way. I'd like to do the entire trail.
